IT'S OFFICIAL, WE'VE GOT OUR NEXT BOOK ON THE WAY!

The Archaeology of Falling Worlds by Megan Chee is coming to you in Spring of 2027. And I can FINALLY tell you about it!

This “Miyazaki meets Cyberpunk 2077” science fantasy book about an impossible city at the edge of the universe, the mystery of what brings everything and everyone to this particular place, and two isolated people who want so desperately to belong is so vibrant and fun and dark and humorous and bleak and such a ride from start to finish that I could barely make myself put it down to sleep.

Here are some announcement highlights and Bindery insider info:

• The genre is Science Fantasy, meaning it's a blend of sci-fi and fantasy. It leans more towards sci-fi, but...well you'll find out more in the coming months ;)

• In its current form it's roughly 95,000 words, though this will likely change a bit in editing. (For reference, Bargain ended up at 117,000 by publication)

• Megan started writing this book in 2019 while she was playing Cyberpunk 2077. Yes, that is in fact why I've been playing it again recently.

• This is Megan's debut novel, but it won't be her first published work! She has quite the backlist of science-fiction and fantasy short fiction published in various magazines. Keep an eye out for another post today, I'll be putting up a reading guide to her work that's freely available online.

• This manuscript hit my desk SEVEN MONTHS AGO! If you remember the frenzy that was my move last summer, I got this while I was moving and read it in my mostly empty apartment before I'd unpacked almost anything. And I have been bouncing off the walls to tell you about it ever since, but publishing contracts sometimes take a lot of time. In this case, in part because...

• It has a UK publication deal as well that we were coordinating with! Daphne Press is publishing Archaeology in the UK, which is also why this is a Spring 2027 release. I had actually been acquiring for 2026 but when we got to Archaeology it already had the Daphne deal and its Spring '27 planned release, and rather than drop it in hopes that I'd maybe find something else for '26, I knew I needed this book.

• It also already has an Audiobook deal with Bolinda Audio! Unlike with Bargain, Megan and her agent held on to audio rights and shopped that deal themselves, so we're not publishing the audiobook, but there will be an audiobook.

• It's not available to TBR on goodreads or pre-order yet, but rest assured y'all will be the first to know when it is
